Acts 28:16, 30-31
‘When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him. For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!’
Hi Beloved, Paul was taken to Rome to meet with the Roman Emperor in order to have his case heard before the Emperor. As a Roman citizen, Paul exercised his rights to appeal his case and have the charges brought against him to be heard by Caesar himself (Acts 25:10-12). After Paul reached Rome, he was kept under house arrest but with a certain amount of freedom of life. He has his own rented home with a soldier guarding him. Scripture says for 2 full years, Paul lived in this rented home and from this home he did his ministry without hindrance. Amazing!
All these years Paul had been travelling place to place preaching the gospel. However, for 2 full years, he was locked down in one place and not allowed to go anywhere. Yet from this rented home, Paul proclaimed the kingdom of God, taught about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance, not only to those who came to his home (Acts 28:13) but to many nations and generations to come. What do I mean?
It is widely agreed by Bible scholars that Paul wrote the Epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians during this time in Rome. These epistles he wrote under the inspiration of Holy Spirit are a great blessing to us who are living now in 2020. They are guiding us to live a godly life in Christ Jesus even now. From his rented home in Rome whilst being locked down, God was using Paul to touch not only nations but generations to come.
Beloved, there will be times in life, when we do not understand why certain things are permitted by God to happen? The things that happen may cause us great pain, hardships, tears and even loss. Even if we do not know or understand the reasons, God knows the purpose behind every pain. He knows the victories that will be won behind every hardships. He knows about the moulding of character behind every tear. He knows about the rewards we will gain behind every loss.
If God has brought you to a place of spiritual lockdown, do not be dismayed or discouraged. He is brought you there to do something greater. What He will do through your life during that time and after those times will impact and be a blessing to many people, many nations, and many generations to come.
So being locked down by God is a good thing beloved. Receive it with joy. Romans 5:3 ‘but we glory in tribulations.’ For the trials of today are glories of tomorrow. 2 Corinthians 4:17 ‘For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.’
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ grant you strength and peace always.
