Hi friends, it is such a blessing to write to you once more and encourage you in the faith. God loves you so much and that is why He is talking to you today.
Sometime back I read about an incident that happened during a cricket match. One team was batting, and they had lost 9 wickets and the last man to bat was supposed to come out. However, there was no sign of him coming out of the players’ room. They searched for him everywhere, but they could not find him. Finally, they decided to stop their batting innings and let the other team bat. Later on, they found their missing man in the ground itself. Do you know what happened to him? He was hiding. Why was he hiding? He was too afraid to go out and bat because the 2 main bowlers of the other team were bowling extremely fast and many of the players had already gotten hit by the ball. So in fear he went and hid to avoid batting that day.
Friends, fear causes us to do crazy and funny things.
One day the disciples were in a boat and Jesus was with them too (Mark 4:35-41). Jesus was asleep down in the bottom of the boat. Suddenly a storm broke out and waves began to rock the boat and fill it with water. What did the disciples do? They ran to Jesus and woke Him screaming ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ Jesus woke up and with one word calmed the wind and the sea.
Friends, fear caused the disciples to question and doubt the love of God for them.
The disciples actually asked the Lord, ‘do you not care about us?’ What a question to ask from the Lord who is so full of love. God always cares for us. Even when we think He is silent and we do not feel or see Him, He is still there in the boat with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is always with us. However, when fear gets hold of us, we tend to forget these scriptural truths and act in ways that question God and His love and care for us.
Friends, this virus that is going around in our nation is causing a lot of fear. Everywhere people are so full of fear. Friends, we must obey the rules the authorities have imposed, and we must be cautious. However, we must not be fearful.
When we fear, we question the goodness of God towards us.
Remember that our loving Lord Jesus is able to protect us from any plague and He is also able to heal us from any sickness that may come. He is there with us always. Remember this truth. Keep your faith strong by looking to Jesus always. Do not look at the situation around you.
On another occasion when the disciples were in a boat a storm broke out. As they were struggling to row the boat, Jesus came walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33). On that day Peter said he too wanted to walk on water like Jesus. So, Jesus said step out of the boat and come. Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. For as long as His eyes were on Jesus, he walked on the water. However, when he took his eyes away from Jesus and looked at the wind; fear filled his heart and then he began to sink into the water. Peter cried out; Lord save me! Jesus immediately reached out and caught Peter and said, ‘oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?’
If we keep our eyes on Jesus and continue on in our journey, we will walk over all our problems with power and authority. The moment we take our eyes off Jesus and look at the problems, we will sink and suffer.
Nevertheless, the love of Jesus is so great that even when Peter began to sink without faith; when he cried out, Lord save me, Jesus reached out and lifted Peter up. Yes, in life when fear tries to overpower us and when we cry out to Jesus, He will always reach out to us to strengthen us with His grace and give us His power to overcome fear.
Friends do not look at anything else. Look at Jesus only. Hebrews 12:2 says ‘He is the author and finisher of our faith.’ Keep trusting Him. He cares for you. He loves you. His grace and mercy towards you is great. So do not fear for anything. Not even a virus. Nothing happens without God’s permission. He is always in control of all situations. He permits things to happen for a greater purpose. So, keep your eyes on Him and you will never fall.
Face fear & overcome it. Don’t bow down to it!
May the Lord Himself fill you with boldness, courage and faith today.
